Historical Research Question
To create a well-designed historical exhibit you need more than a Greenwich Village topic that interests you and for which you can locate items. If you haven't developed a good historical research question you will have more trouble developing the parameters of your research.
- Ask "How and Why" something happened rather than "What or When" something happened.
- How did different groups or individuals interact? Did they have different experiences?
- What have others said about the topic? Historians, contemporaries, other media?
- Can you construct a thesis statement for your topic?
- Does your history support or contradict the generally accepted history of Greenwich Village, New York City, or the United States?
