Here is a guide to customizing the Elementaire theme. It is still in development, so please let me know if there is something you want that you cannot do. You can file bug reports on a https://github.com/JonathanReeve/theme-elementaireGitHub site for the development of the theme.
Style Sheet
- Horizontal —the sections will appear horizontally with pages appearing in a second row of horizontal boxes
- Vertical — the sections will appear on the left margin, when you select one, the pages will be displayed beneath them.
Background image
This is an image that will appear around the border of your exhibit, if you choose to use one. The image may tile if it is too small.
- You can look for free background images on the web and download them. There are tons of sites online that you can use. Here are just a few:

Background color
If you choose not to use a background image, you can select a different color for this part of the page. Use the hex code for the color.
Page color
This is the inside "page" of the webpage, where your navigation, text, and items will go. Use the hex code for the color.
Logo
You can load a logo file which will appear in the upper left corner of the exhibit. It looks like the logo is a standard box, so you might have to play with the size of your file to insure that there is no white space around it. For an example of an exhibit making a nice use of a logo see Peace Pentagon.
Header image
The header image should go the length of the page, but be fairly narrow height-wise or else it will take up too much screen real estate. A good size for the header image is 1050 px by 95px. For good examples of the use of headers, see Astor Library, Humanizing the Hooker, and Targ Press.
Heading color
Select the color that the header texts should be from the hex code.
Heading font
Use Google Web Fonts to select the font for your exhibit title, section and page headings. When you have selected the font that you want, enter its name in the Elementaire configuration page.
Header font size
Add the size in pixels, 36px or 48px for example.
Hide Dividers
You can have a thin line divider or choose not to.
Navigation Font
Use Google Web Fonts to select the font for your navigation buttons. When you have selected the font that you want, enter its name in the Elementaire configuration page.
Navigation Color One
Select the color that the navigation buttons should be from the hex code.
Navigation Color Two
Select the color that the navigation bar text should be from the hex code.
Body Text Color
Select the color that the main text of your exhibit should be from the hex code. Note that you can alter the color of specific words or sections on a page by using html on that page.
Display Exhibit Sections
You can have the first page of your exhibit lay out the structure, or not. For an example of an exhibit that has one, see Humanizing the Hooker and for one that does not, see Documenting Death.
Footer Text
You can add some text here that will appear at the bottom of every page.
Copyright info
You can show the site's default copyright setting at the bottom of each page. This currently says: "For copyright see individual items."
